Fernando Forestieri says he was pleased with the efforts the whole Udinese team showed in their friendly against Sturm Graz, despite the 3-2 defeat.

The attacker was brought on at half time and scored the equalising goal to bring the score to 2-2. Although the team then conceded a late penalty, Fernando was still positive when reflecting on the match.

“We always want to win, even in friendlies. We didn’t agree with the penalty awarded at the end, although it’s better it happens now than in a league game. However, we still played really well. We’ve been doing double training sessions with a high workload throughout the week. I liked the commitment of the whole team - we all put everything in to try and win.”

He also revealed that he had cut short his summer holiday in order to get some more pre-season preparations under his belt.

“I came back from the summer break ten days early to get a head start on my preparations, which I couldn’t do last year. So I’m feeling good, despite my heavy legs.”

Finally, speaking of coach Luca Gotti, Fernando touched on the squad’s willingness to learn and adapt to new ideas.

“We’re ready to do what the coach asks of us. He knows us best and if he comes up with new ideas, we’re always ready to try them. We’ve tried some other formations and the approach the coach wants us to take requires a lot of effort but I really like that.”
