Unai Gomez was among the new signings presented to the press on Thursday during the Media Day organised in Lienz.

The 23-year-old, who joined from Athletic Club, began by giving his first impressions of Friuli and Udine.

“I've already spoken to lots of people from Udinese and I've discovered there are lots of similarities between the Basque Country and Friuli. In both places there is a strong sense of belonging – that's impressed me.

“La Liga is different to Serie A. I'm talked a lot with the coach and [Gokhan] Inler and I know there's less space here and it's a more tactical game. I'm working to make sure I'm ready as soon as possible.

“During my career I've played in central midfield and further forward, including on the wing. Here I could play as a central midfielder but the main thing is I'm ready to perform wherever the coach wants to use me.

“I'm talking with Gerard Deulofeu at lot too and he's given me lots of advice. He was an important player and I want to make the most of his experience.

“My first impression is great. The players are really keen to work hard. There are lots of young players but experienced ones too and everyone wants to start the season in the best way possible.

“In Spain we do a lot of ball work in pre-season whereas here there's a lot of fitness work. I'm giving it my all to get in shape for the start of the campaign.

“On the pitch I always try to give everything I have. I like being on the ball, setting up team-mates, getting into space, helping the team in the different moments of a match.”
