Udinese 'too hasty' in Genoa defeat, says Cioffi

The coach gave his thoughts after a disappointing loss

"We studied the opponents, but we failed the exam," said Udinese coach Gabriele Cioffi, speaking after his side's 2-0 defeat at Genoa on Saturday.

"We had an orderly half-hour, in which we could have been calmer in finding space behind their midfield. We were too hasty and created problems for ourselves. We conceded the goal and after that it was as if the plug was pulled. Paradoxically, the second half display was braver in terms of play, despite the fact that we were down 10."

On the topic of Thomas Kristensen's sending off, the coach commented: "Young players are developing and you grow by making mistakes. It is also true that there is no more time, or there is less and less time, to make mistakes.

"We are aware of this and from here we need to go again, with anger and ruthlessness, trusting that we will find the love of the fans to give us calm for a difficult game."

In his closing remarks, Cioffi described the defeat as the "worst" of his tenure.

"I don't think it's about being up against big or small sides. We have to pick up points and that is not the key. We now have to turn the tiller and become proactive again in attack."
