Goncalo Esteves has signed for Udinese to strengthen the side’s options out wide, having joined from Portuguese giants Sporting on a contract that runs until 30 June 2028.
As a wide player who can play at wing-back or full-back, Esteve is gifted with a burst of pace and technical quality.
Born in Arcos de Valdevez on 27 February 2004, Goncalo came up through the youth ranks at Porto before making the move to Sporting at the age of 17. Esteves went on to make his senior debut for the Lisbon-based outfit in 2021/22, which included a start in the Champions League away to Ajax. In total, he made 11 appearances for the Portuguese side.
The wide player spent 2023/24 at Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar, where he scored once in 14 games for the club’s reserve side, while he did also make his debut for the first team while he was in the Netherlands.
At international level, Goncalo has 11 caps with the under-16s, nine with the under-18s including one goal and 18 for the under-19s along with two goals (including a final appearance at Euro 2023). He also has five caps at under-20 level.
Welcome to Udinese, Goncalo!
