Udinese put an end to their five-match losing streak with an impressive point against Champions League-chasing Bologna.
It was a dynamic display by Kosta Runjaic's team and they can consider themselves unlucky not to have gone in ahead at the break after fashioning several decent opportunities in the opening half – most notably Keinan Davis' thunderous third-minute effort cannoning off the bar.
Martin Payero was particularly lively and orchestrated a counter-attack which saw Jurgen Ekkelenkamp fire over before seeing an effort of his own saved by Lukasz Skorupski.
Bologna were kept mostly quiet in the opening 45 and Udinese finished the half in the ascendancy. First Arthur Atta dummied his way into a shooting position only to drag his finish wide, then Payero laid off for Davis, who powered forward and had his shot deflected behind. Payero almost sent the resulting corner straight into the goal.
Five minutes after the restart Payero curled a free kick inches wide of the top corner, but Bologna came into the game more in the last half an hour and went close to taking the lead when Riccardo Orsolini's free kick rattled the crossbar.
Oumar Solet tried to catch Skorupski off guard with a cheeky attempt from inside his own half but the Polish keeper managed to get back in time.
As the match drew to a close, Orsolini headed wide then drilled in a low cross that was beaten away by Maduka Okoye.
The last chance fell to Sandi Lovric deep in stoppage time but his free kick was saved by Skorupski.
It ended goalless with a well-deserved point for Udinese, which takes them up to 41 in the table, in 12th place.
