European football is set to return to Udine in style. At the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on Monday 16 December, Bluenergy Stadium was selected as the venue for the UEFA Super Cup 2025. Scheduled for 13 August, the prestigious match will see the winners of the Champions League and Europa League face off. This marks the first time the trophy, one of the most coveted in European football, will be contested in Italy, a historic moment for Udine and its stadium.
The selection of Bluenergy Stadium is testament to the quality of the venue’s facilities and its reputation among Italian and European football institutions. Since its renovation, the stadium has played host to the Italy national team on four occasions, most recently this October 2024, and was the venue for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final in 2019. Udinese Calcio’s sustainability initiatives, such as the soon-to-be-inaugurated solar park at Bluenergy Stadium, also influenced UEFA’s decision, aligning with the goal of switching to a circular economy within European football.
This will be the most significant sporting event ever held at Bluenergy Stadium and in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. The match will bring two of Europe’s top teams to Udine, shining the international spotlight on the city and region. This achievement is the result of Udinese Calcio’s consistent efforts, reinforcing its role as an ambassador for the region in Italy and abroad. The club also promotes the region through the Io sono Friuli-Venezia Giulia logo on its jerseys, bringing tangible benefits for the area as a whole.
“Following the UEFA Under-21 Championship final in 2019 and four important fixtures involving the national team, Bluenergy Stadium and Udinese Calcio are honoured to host what I would call an epic encounter,” said managing director Franco Collavino. “This event is not only significant for sport but also for the city of Udine and the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, showcasing the vital role of sport here. While we pledge our utmost commitment to organising the event, it’s worth highlighting that the Udinese project continues to prove its success in attracting high-profile events and enhancing the region. We thank FIGC and UEFA for their trust and are confident we will repay it by hosting the Super Cup in one of Europe’s most groundbreaking stadiums.”
