Andrea Sottil was pleased with his side's performance against Qatari outfit Al Rayyan as they work towards their first game of the season in the Coppa Italia next Friday.

Beto and Florian Thauvin overturned the visitors' opening goal in a 2-1 win for Udinese.

“Our opponents made a real match of it physically and they had lots of quality too. We improved as the game wore on and we could have scored a lot of goals. It was a decent runout.

“Tomorrow morning we'll play the lads who didn't feature today so that we can get everyone ready for the season. We're coming towards the end of our preparations now and we want to give all the players the chance to get a good number of minutes in their legs.

“The team is working well even though there have been changes. We need to give the new guys time to get used to Serie A. We have lots of work to do but that's what we're here for.

“We have another week before the Coppa Italia and two until the league starts – there's time to hone our team play.”

Sottil also commented on his striking options: “ Beto and Thauvin are the strike duo who are most settled in our system and in the best physical shape

“Vivaldo Semedo is a very promising young player, and so is Oier Zarraga. They just need time.

“My staff and I are confident we'll be ready for our first competitive fixtures.”
