Sottil: "We should have won this game"

The boss feels Udinese deserved more against Verona

Andrea Sottil was left to rue a frustrating evening as Udinese dominated their game against Hellas Verona but were unable to find the all-important second goal as it finished 1-1 at Dacia Arena

“We thoroughly deserved to win today,” the coach began. “Verona have been in great form of late but we had them pegged back in their area. It's a shame we conceded an early own goal from from that crazy deflection. It was all Udinese afterwards. We moved the ball around well and created loads of chances but [Lorenzo] Montipo kept saving them and was man of the match.

“When you're without the likes of [Jean-Victor] Makengo, [Gerard] Deulofeu, [Roberto] Pereyra and [Ilija[ Nestorovski, you're going to be lacking something in midfield and attack. People tend to see the glass as half empty but Udinese are seventh and we should have won today playing great football.

“What we have to do now is get straight back to work tomorrow. I'm sorry for the lads as they created so much. Lazar [Samardzic] scored a wonderful goal after a great team move.

“No one is celebrating because we drew but I thought it was one of our best performances. I saw my oold team again. You can't expect to beat Verona 4-0. Let's not forget that Milan conceded five to Sassuolo and Juventus were beaten by Monza. I'm keeping my feet on the ground. The lads just need to be a bit more clinical but they deserve credit. I'm happy the transfer window shuts tomorrow. That way we'll have a stable squad and hopefully we can get the injured players back.”
