Sottil: "We need time, patience and hard work"

The coach spoke after the Juventus game

Udinese head coach Andrea Sottil gave his thoughts after his side fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Juventus. Here’s some of what he had to say:

“I didn’t enjoy one bit how we started the game. It angered me that we didn’t do what we’re capable of doing.

“We had 18 shots on goal and two big chances, but in order to win games you need to score. We didn’t perform badly but you give yourselves an uphill task if you concede after two minutes, followed by a penalty and another in first half added time. We put in a lot of effort and pressed well in the second half, and I don’t get why we didn’t do this from the get-go. It’s too little, too late at 3-0.

“Serie A is a tough league and our new players need to get up to speed with the demands of the league. It’s not easy to bed in right away.

“As for Oier Zarraga, I don’t think that anyone played well today, not just him. He needs to settle into the team but he’ll improve. When Lazar Samardzic joined he had some flak come his way, but now he’s a vital cog in our wheel. We hope that he stays at the club.

“I hate the way that the transfer window works. I agree with what Maurizio Sarri said. It’s hard to work under such conditions.

“We need time, patience and hard work. Nobody is going home happy, I’m sorry for the club, the lads and the fans, but we’re capable of dusting ourselves down and going again from tomorrow.”
