Sottil: "Keep calm and focus on Genoa"

The boss chews over a deserved defeat at Napoli

Andrea Sottil urged Udinese to pick themselves up after a bad day at the office in Naples and quickly turn their attentions to their next match at the weekend.

“There's nothing to say about the result – Napoli deserved to win,” he admitted in the aftermath of Wednesday's 4-1 reverse at the Stadio Maradona.

“We didn't start badly. We had a couple of decent chances from the edge of the box with [Martin] Payero and [Florian] Thauvin, but I expected to see more pressing and more personality.

“Napoli are a great team but we needed to be braver when we had the ball and tougher in the tackle. We weren't as aggressive as we were against Fiorentina.”

The boss then commented on the contribution of Lazar Samardzic, who scored Udinese's consolation goal after coming on as a second-half sub, and the progress made since a summer overhaul of the squad.

“Lazar is a highly talented player but I'd make the same decision again of starting with him on the bench because I wanted a more robust midfield unit.

“The team has changed a lot and we've lost some important players, but we can't live in the past. All that matters is the here and now. The players are getting to know each other and it takes a bit of time but Serie A waits for no one.

“Genoa and Empoli are fundamental for the rest of our season. We have to keep calm and make sure we prepare properly for Sunday's game.”
