Lazar Samardzic expressed his relief and satisfaction after scoring in Udinese's crucial 2-0 win at Lecce on Monday.

The Serbian midfielder netted the second five minutes from time to make sure of the win, which lifted the team out of the relegation zone.

“We're happy now – we needed a big three points like this to give us a boost,” commented the 22-year-old, who has been operating in a more attacking role since Fabio Cannavaro took over.

“I'm playing further forward now and I feel I'm one of the leader of the side. I like this position. I want to help the team more.

“The boss has told us not to think too much and to do what we try during the week. You can misplace a pass sometimes – that happens in football. We just have to think positive.

“We have two more finals to play, against Empoli and Frosinone, but we'll focus on the first one for now. We want to put everything into it because it will be our last home game. We need to finish the season with more wins.”

Samardzic also showed his gratitude to the travelling supporters for their help.

“We want to thank the fans who came all this way. We're going to need them even more on Sunday because it's going to be a real battle with Empoli and we want another three points.”
