The midfielder steps up to the plate

Lazar Samardzic was the latest player to feature on Udinese Tonight, in an edition which covered the midfielder’s thoughts on his side’s 1-1 draw against Cagliari, the season as a whole and his personal form:

“We’re disappointed with the Cagliari result. We put in a great first half performance but then they scored from out of the blue, with their second shot on goal. We were shaken by their equaliser and this affected us after the break – they hit the woodwork and we were in a bad place.

“It’s hard to keep dusting ourselves down but we’ve got a coach who’s always a positive talker. He tells us to never give in and that’s why we do really well in training. We know that it’s up to us to sort out this situation.

“It’s been a tough season for all of us here. I’ve only ever wanted to help the team – I’ve shut out the noise regarding the transfer market. I feel good here in Udine, as I’ve always said. Udinese is in my heart and I want to keep developing here.

“When I came back into action everyone said they were happy that I stayed. My team-mates have always been positive as well.

“I’ve got a great relationship with the boss. We chat a lot and he always tells me where I need to improve and when I’m left out he tells me the reason why. As a coach he likes defending which does me good, as I can improve my defensive qualities.

“I want to hit double figures for goals and assists. I want to help my team-mates and by scoring more goals we can win more matches. That would make me happy.

“Opponents press me more, but that’s to be expected. They know that they can’t afford to give me space and there are always players hounding me to stop me getting the ball onto my left foot.

“I miss Nesto [Ilija Nestorovski] – he was the first person I met at the club. He was like an uncle to me. I chat to Florian [Thauvin] a lot – he’s got a great left foot and we always practice together in training. He was on free kick duty against Juventus but he didn’t score so he said that I’d get a chance in the next game. I didn’t do a good job against Cagliari so it’ll be his turn again in the next fixture.”
