Kosta Runjaic sat down with the media on Saturday to discuss Udinese's next match away at Parma on Monday evening.

He began by commenting on the benefits of the international break and the prospect of facing newly promoted Parma.

“The break was really good for us, as I think it was for every team. Some of the lads went away and did really well for their national team, like [Thomas] Kristensen. I'm happy to have them back. I think he's ready but I don't know if he'll play.

“We have some time before Monday. The international break often creates problems or tension but I think we have a good balance. We've had a few days to focus and train intensely. With our game being played on Monday, we've had a long week and it's important to get our timing right given the intensity we're putting into it. We're trained well and we're happy to be playing again. Seven points are a great haul but we want to keep improving.

“We'll have an opportunity to take another step forward against a tough opponent on Monday. The next game is always the hardest and Parma are a great team who have improved over the years. They have players who have been playing together for years so they know each other well. The coach has been there for a long time too. They have a clearly established way of playing. They're on a high after getting promoted and doing really well in their first three matches.

“We have a plan for how we want to play them. We want to play good football and do everything possible to win the game.”

On the recent squad additions: “The break was useful to test out the new lads – three young, talented players – and help them settle into the squad. I'm happy with our new players. They've shown they can play. Now we need to figure out how to take things forward and get to know each other better. It takes time but they're training well and I'm pleased. [Isaak] Toure is very talented and could have a great future ahead of him. [Rui] Modesto will need to adapt to the team, our playing system and intensity, but all three of them can play. We'll see when and how much.”

On giving the team the day off on Friday: “We had three really intense days of training and I think you can use Friday in a different way. Some of them trained on their own in the gym and we watched material for the next match. We were still preparing for the game. You need to keep fresh mentally and physically. The lads are really motivated to do well and are preparing for this game in the best possible way. The first three matches have been good for our self-confidence and they want to keep doing better.

“Parma are a very dangerous side. They're young and strong. But we have a good mix of youth and experience. The youngsters have been training with conviction. [Alexis] Sanchez is still training with intensity too – that's what you want to see as a coach.”
