Kosta Runjaic sat down with the media on Thursday to look ahead to Udinese's Serie A meeting with Inter.

The coach began with an update from the treatment room before discussing the team's mistakes against Roma and possible formations his side could play with.

“We don't know how serious [Martin] Payero's injury is yet. His foot is still swollen. We'll know more at the start of next week after he's had diagnostic tests. He definitely won't be available for the Inter game. If all goes well, he'll be back after the international break.

“[Lautaro] Giannetti is improving and is on his way back but he won't make it for Inter either. We'll see about Lecce. We have to wait till next week.

“You get mistakes in football – it would be a boring sport without them. We have to improve in certain situations and we're working on that in training but of course you have to factor in the opponents during the match. We made it too easy for Roma at the weekend. We have to avoid mistakes against Inter – one mistake against teams like Inter or Roma and you pay for it immediately. Mistakes can happen but we're working to make sure they don't.

"We'll be playing the Italian champions, a fantastic team with incredible quality and they'll be smarting after losing the derby. It's going to be a tough match but we're ready for it, despite some of our players not being on top form. We'll put out the team that can produce the best performance possible and we'll try to make life tough for Inter with the help of our fans.

“[Hassane] Kamara and [Thomas] Kristensen aren't 100% fit so we might not risk them but they're getting better. Their injuries aren't serious but if they play they might make things worse. In any case, we have players who can perform well. We're going to have to work our socks off against Inter. We want to put into practice the ideas we have in mind and produce a good performance in front of our fans.

“I can't say with 100% certainty what formation we'll play. We got off to a bad start against Roma. We didn't defend well and we did even worse when we had the ball. If you play like that against top teams like Roma, you end up chasing the ball all the time and everything becomes more difficult. I've already moved on from Roma but we didn't lose because of our formation. It was the lack of quality in our play and our movement off the ball. We need to be more aggressive. We lost the key duels in Roma and that makes the difference. We mustn't repeat the mistakes against Inter. I have two options for the formation. We're trying out a four-man defence in training and we'll see if it's workable. We'll decide how to play depending on the situation, on our form, our opponents and other factors.”
