Udinese lost away from home on Sunday to Sassuolo. The referee awarded two penalties to Udinese, but these were subsequently overturned by VAR. Kosta Runjaic spoke after the match.
“Football is based on scoring goals and not conceding them. [Thomas] Kristensen missed a goal and then we conceded two too easily. When you start like that, it’s difficult to come back from it. We were unlucky. If we scored at least one of those two penalties, we would’ve gone into the break at 2-1 and things would have changed. We played a lot better in the second half. We scored and came close to equalising, but we ended up conceding too easily again. That’s how it went. We’re disappointed but we have to keep going.
“We conceded twice at the start. It shouldn’t happen and that was the key to the game. Penalties aren’t up to us and we can’t do anything about them. At least one of the two was a sure penalty but we can’t do anything about it. I’m angrier about the goals we conceded. We had control over that.
“We’ve got to improve on a few different things. We have a long week ahead of us. We know what we have to do. Next Sunday we have an important home game, and you’ll see a different Udinese.
“I don’t think I’m putting pressure on [Arthur] Atta. I believe in him. He’s made progress but he has to push himself even further. He’s got quality and he needs to show that on the pitch. He’s intelligent and he needs to prove himself time and time again.”
