Kosta Runjaic and Mergim Vojvoda took questions from the media in the Stadio Brianteo press room after Udinese defeated Monza 3-2 on Saturday evening.
Here's what they had to say:
Runjaic: “I'm delighted with our performance and the win – three points away from home. Monza weren't an easy side to play against. They're are a good team who play man for man. That said, I'm not happy with the two goals we conceded quite easily.
“We kept battling till the end and played with real character out there. We did some good things with the ball too. In the second half we missed a couple of chances to get the fourth goal and in football if you don't score then your opponent can hit you back. There were a few counter-attacks we could have done better on.
“Maduka [Okoye] did brilliantly on several occasions.
“I hope [Jurgen] Ekkelenkamp can show all his ability. This is his third season here and I'm very pleased with the way he works hard every day. He works for the team and follows our playing principles. I'm happy he scored. We'll see how things go but I'm sure he can have a great season.
“Everyone keeps asking about Europe but the basic target is staying up. To get into Europe, we need to prepare the team to fight for that objective. It's not just about the signings you make – Fiorentina lost 3-0 today, for example. If you ask me if we're missing anything, every coach wants a better team with more competition and versatility, but we're Udinese – we're not a team that sets out with the goal of qualifying for Europe. We have some excellent foundations and we have to keep building, Now we must focus on our next game, in the Coppa Italia.
“[Keinan] Davis is a great player and a great person. We know we need to manage his playing time. He did a good job today and it wasn't easy for him. We know he can do better but he needs to get into his stride. He didn't miss a single training session in pre-season. He just needs time.
“[Christian] Kabasele will be back next week but we all need to work together. We also need to keep hold of [Oumar] Solet – he's our insurance policy.”
Vojvoda: "Last season at Como I made a good start to the season, as I have this year. I try to repay the club for believing in me and help the team by always giving 100%. Every season I'm a bit more experienced so it goes a bit better. I feel comfortable with the team and the coach. I've settled in quickly so I'm happy.
“[Cesc] Fabregas and Runjaic are different coaches. I was lucky to have been coached by Cesc but I've met lots of coaches in Italy, including [Ivan] Juric. I've played this kind of football before so it was easy to adapt to the coach's philosophy. It's an aggressive brand of football but he wants to keep the ball a lot too. He knows what I can give him.”
