“For the city and for the club.” That's how Maduka Okoye summed up the meaning of Udinese maintaining their top-flight status – achieved partly thanks to his decisive interventions in the 1-0 win over Frosinone.
“Being in Serie A is very important for the city, for the fans and for the club,” he explained after the final whistle. “I'm happy and I'm feeling a lot of emotions right now. It was important for us to give Gianpaolo Pozzo a nice birthday present."
The 24-year-old then spoke about his own season, which saw him become first-choice goalkeeper midway through the campaign.
“It means a lot to me. I still have lots of things to work on but I have a great coach and I'm sure I'll get better in future.”
In other good news, the goalkeeper has been recalled to the Nigeria squad.
“I'm delighted to be back in the Nigeria squad. It's a huge honour for me and my family to play for Nigeria. But for now, Alé Udin!”
