At the end of the final league match of the season at home to Fiorentina, Gian Luca Nani spoke out about the refereeing incidents:
“Today even Lazio fans will be angry about the refereeing. ‘Congratulations’ to the referee who, in the era of VAR, somehow managed to make an impact with a second yellow card – the one given to [Jaka] Bijol – for something you could clearly see from 100 metres away wasn’t a foul.
“It’s a real shame. Today he ruined a match that was meant to be a celebration, something we really cared about as a gift for the fans and the president.
“The season remains a positive one, but whenever something goes against us, we come here and say it. We’ve ended the season almost the same way we started it by talking about referees.
“We’ve played attacking football and helped many players develop. There are several positives to take from this season.
“We’ll start again from all those positives and build a competitive team based on scouting and the coach’s vision.”
