Marino: "Samardzic channelling Bierhoff"

The director spoke after the 2-1 win over Verona

Pierpaolo Marino found it hard to put into words the joy he felt after yet again seeing the years of effort he’s put in bear fruit. He was interviewed after Udinese’s 2-1 triumph over Verona, the club’s sixth win in a row:

“I love my job and football, and when we achieve what we’ve achieved I find it emotionally moving.

“The ghosts from the 4-0 defeat last season were lurking. Yet this team has got a different mentality – it never gives in and has a coach who reads the game wonderfully well.

“Our substitutes are playing a vital role. Lazar Samardzic’s free kick was a real throwback to Oliver Bierhoff at his best.

“I’d like to thank the fans. The fact that 1,000 of them travelled on a Monday evening for this game is proof of their amazing faith and love for the club. I’d like to congratulate them on the role they played in this sixth win on the spin.

“We’re up against Atalanta next who are top of the table. They’re a tough proposition but we don’t want to end this wonderful run of form just yet. It’ll be a great match in any case.”
