For the final edition of Udinese tonight of 2024 the guest was Sandi Lovric. The Slovenian midfielder shared his thoughts on last weekend’s game against Torino, weighed up the year as a whole and discussed the latest addition to his family.
“It was hard to sleep after the Torino match. We were 2-0 up at home and we weren’t able to hold onto our lead. In any case we earned an important point, but we do regret not getting all three. Certain details made the difference. We can still improve a lot. Torino are an experienced side with players who know how important it is to capitalise on such scenarios.
“Mistakes happen – that’s football. We need to grow as one and understand how to be more compact. If I look back at last week, our first goal came from a bad mistake from Luca Ranieri, and Fiorentina are a top team, so these things can happen to the best sides. It’s hard to explain and these things happen. It’s wrong to point fingers at individuals – the team as a whole must bear the responsibility.
“As for the season as a whole, we’ve picked up many points so far but I don’t want to settle for how we’ve done up until this point. I like to take things game by game. We’re on the right track. If we look back to last season, in which we really suffered, we’re doing better – we’re winning more games and the team has more belief.
“The highlight and lowlight of 2024 both came in a game against Frosinone. It was a lowlight that we were in that situation at all – and that I was watching from the stands, injured – but it was a highlight to secure our Serie A status. It was such a freeing feeling. I’ve never suffered so much watching a game in my entire career.
“As for my team-mates who I’ve been impressed by most in recent months, I’m really happy for Keinan Davis. He’d suffered a lot of injuries but he’s showing us what we were missing last season. I’m also delighted that Alexis Sanchez is back at the club – his presence and mentality drive us all on. He’s really competitive and always wants to win, and makes those around him raise their game to his level. We can all learn a lot from him because he’s played for great teams.
“I became a father for the second time recently – my daughter is called Kiara. I feel blessed. As for what I get up to in Udine, I love being out and about and chatting to people. The people here are lovely. They’re great with me and I’m proud of that as it’s an indication that I’m doing something right.”
