This week's guest on Udinese Tonight was Thomas Kristensen. The big Dane touched on all sorts of of topics, from the team's form to his growth as a footballer, and adapting to life in Udine with the aid of a club legend.
“We didn't get any points against Roma but it was another game where we showed some good things. In the first half we were switched on and well positioned in defence, but I think we need to create more openings and score more goals.
“We haven't lost any of the conviction we had at the start of the season. There are always ups and downs in football. We're going through a tough spell but we must stick together, keep our heads down and carry on working hard. It would be a shame to waste what we've done so far. Expectations are obviously high after the start we had. The main thing now is getting points on the board. We have to keep knuckling down and starting picking up results again.
Kristensen also spoke about his move to Udinese from his home-town club Aarhus in summer 2023.
“I was proud to come here to Udine. I knew it was a good place to play football. I've been watching Serie A since I was a kid and it was a big step for me as a footballer. I've improved a lot here. Before coming I knew the Italian league was tough – especially for defenders.”
He was aided in the settling-in process by a familiar name for Udinese fans: Martin Jorgensen.
“Last year he came to Udine and took me out for a pizza. He told me to enjoy the city more. He coached me when I was younger and when I joined Udinese he gave me lots of help in adjusting. Udine is a bit smaller than my city, Aarhus, but they're quite similar. I played there from the age of ten, then in 2020 I was promoted to the senior team.”
The 23-year-old has now established himself as a regular in Kosta Runjaic's starting line-up.
“What the coach asks of me first and foremost is to defend well. He also wants me to go into duels with determination and be bold in playing the ball.”
Finally, Kristensen revealed his career dream, before commenting on his perpetual smile and the Udinese fans.
“My dream is to play in England one day but for now I want to keep playing for Udinese. I'm happy to be here. I like this club and I can learn a lot in Udine.
“I like smiling. I'm always happy. Except when I lose. But I'm only sad for a day, then I'm ready to move on.
“I really appreciate the support our fans give us. It's great when we play at home. Lots of them travel for away games too.”
