Hassane Kamara could barely hide his delight after Udinese’s stunning 2-1 win away to Lazio on Monday which allowed the team to pull clear of the relegation zone and climb the table.

As a guest on the TV 12 show, the winger explained how the result will “fire the team up” going forward.

“This result will do us the world of good and fire us up. What the coach said to us remains in the dressing room, but we’re all thrilled.”

The win over Lazio was a remarkable third success on the road against the big boys this season following on from the successes away to AC Milan and Juventus, which Kamara did his best to explain.

“It all depends on how the games are played out as they’re all different. We’re compact against teams near the top and we play on the counter. Against our direct rivals, however, there’s less space and they keep it tight, making it hard to create chances.”

Those direct rivals are now looking up at Udinese in the table, who have climbed to 13th.

“We knew we weren’t in a good league position before that game. It’s a big relief now that we’ve won.”

The Ivorian is enjoying his first season in Serie A and as a wing-back in a midfield five.

“I’m happy because I’m playing so much. It’s been a complicated season for the team and also for me. We’ve drawn so many games. I haven’t yet taken stock of the situation. I’ll wait till the end of the season for that.

“My personal assessment is certainly positive. I’ve had some highs and also some lows as well.”

Kamara also touched on the different positions where he has played in his career.

“In England I was the third defender. There are lots of quick and intelligent forwards over there, and it’s hard to defend against them. Teams keep it tighter in France. I didn’t push up that much so they stuck me in defence. I’m enjoying myself more here.”

The full-back was also quizzed about his stunning maiden goal for the club just the other week.

“As for the goal against Salernitana, I can’t actually remember,” he joked. “When I saw Florian [Thauvin] was going to receive the ball, I accelerated into the box, but my back was to goal, so the only option was a bicycle kick. I only had a moment to think about it. The ball was low, but I’m a small guy! I’d never scored a goal like that in a match, only twice before in training! I was pleased to give the fans a moment of happiness.”

The 30-year-old also spoke highly of the city of Udine, but admitted he is yet to sample a local delicacy.

“I like Udine as a town, but I’m still yet to try frico (a traditional cheese dish).”
