Kabasele: “11 against 11 would’ve been a different story”

After the narrow defeat to Fiorentina, Christian Kabasele spoke about the match and his own solid performance.

“11 against 11 would’ve been a different game, but football is like that sometimes. The second yellow for [Jaka] Bijol was harsh. He clearly got the ball first, then slipped into his opponent. There were five to ten metres between them. It’s a shame to end the season with a loss. We haven’t done well over the past month. Now we need to reset over the break and start fresh. We’ve got solid foundations to build on for next season. Let’s close this chapter and move forward.

“First of all, we need to cut out the mistakes that cost us so much this year. We also dropped too many points against lesser sides, so we need to improve on that. We have a good squad, we’re a real family and the team spirit is there. We need to take a step forward and show we’re capable of finishing in the top ten.

“I’m not sure what the future holds. I haven’t spoken to the club yet, so we’ll see. I know my role in this team. I’m one of the most experienced players and that comes with responsibility.”
