Friday night’s clash between Empoli and Udinese ended in a nil-nil draw which pleases neither side.
The match started with cagey approaches by both teams, before Lazar Samardzic gave the hosts a scare with a header which came close. Empoli hit back through Razvan Marin, who forced Marco Silvestri into a fine stop. Before the break Francesco Caputo thought he had put Empoli ahead, only to have VAR deny him.
The second half was more of the same – neither side wanting to leave the pitch pointless. Udinese fans’ hearts were in their mouths when VAR signalled a penalty, but upon a review the referee overturned the decision. Nicolo Cambiaghi had two chances towards the death but the match was to end all-square. Next up is Lecce after the international break.
