Gabriele Cioffi's first win of his second spell at Udinese came thanks to a battling display at the Stadio Meazza against AC Milan, with Roberto Pereyra's second-half penalty earning the spoils.
Speaking after the game, the coach revealed the non-secret behind the success.
“I've just been myself and have been lucky to have players who were receptive to everything. We understood what wasn't working and we worked together to solve the problems.
“It's been a very intense start because we had three tricky matches in the space of a week: a difficult game against Monza, another tricky one against Cagliari in which I tried out the youngsters and then tonight. Fortunately there was no Zlatan Ibrahimovic today!”
The coach clearly hasn't forgotten the Swede's late equaliser which denied him victory in his maiden Serie A match in the dugout two years ago.
Cioffi also took time to praise Festy Ebosele, who was one of the standout performers on the night and earned the penalty that ultimately led to the winning goal.
“He was excellent today, playing against Rafael Leao and Alessandro Florenzi. He's really getting to grips with the wing-back role. There's still lots of room for improvement but he's on the right path. He just has to keep his head down and carry on working hard. He's got goals in him and I'm sure they'll come for him.”
He then offered some further insight into how the victory came about.
“I was totally focused on us. I didn't look at Milan but how we were training, how we were responding and how we were playing.
“This victory is massive for us. Our team has quality – they just needed a mirror to be placed in front of them so they could see it. However, you win games not through talent alone but hard graft as well.
“We won this game because we played on the front foot and didn't sit back. If we'd come here to defend, we would have lost. We were proactive and with a bit of luck we're leaving here with a fantastic performance and an excellent result.
“Today's performance is also the result of our game against Cagliari, when we saw it's not just four of five players carrying the team.
“I brought passion to the table. These lads have got passion themselves. Together we've lit the ignition.”
