Gabriele Cioffi didn't beat around the bush in his post-match analysis after Udinese had to settle for a share of the spoils with Salernitana at Bluenergy Stadium.

“We're not happy with the draw,” the coach began. “We weren't able to give our fans a win and ease some of the pressure on us.

“We started off tense. Ironically we seemed to become more relaxed after falling behind and went on to create three or four decent chances.”

Hassane Kamara's brilliant bicycle kick on the stroke of half time cancelled out Loum Tchaouna's opener but Udiinese had to contest most of the second half a man down following Festy Ebosele's sending off for two bookable offences.

“We went back out for the second half convinced we could win it. We had fewer clear-cut opportunities but I thought we controlled the game better. Then as I was making a substitution we made a big mistake which cost us dear.

“We'd picked up five points from three games before Genoa, which was a disappointment performance. When one run ends, you have to start another.

“Lazar wasn't the worst performer against Genoa but I decided to beef up the midfield so that our wing-backs could play higher up the field. There's no 'Samardzic situation'. He'll show how good he is.

The fans' discontent is understandable – they're the soul of the team. We work to earn their support and when the crowd get behind you for 90 minutes and they're not happy, it's right that they should let you know. This is our job. It's up to us to make the fans proud of what they see. However, I know their disgruntlement is positive and will help motivate us. It's not hate.

“We wanted to win it even with ten men. The lads kept telling me, 'Don't worry. We'll win.'

“We've picked ourselves up from some crushing draws plus the defeat to Milan, which would have knocked anyone down. We're on the right track. The mistakes mean we have room for improvement.”
