Cioffi: "Credit to Atalanta. Another big game on Saturday"

The boss chews over the 2-0 reverse in Bergamo

Gabriele Cioffi didn't beat around the bush in his analysis of Udinese's defeat to Atalanta. The coach was speaking after watching his side succumb to two first-half goals at Gewiss Stadium.

“We started off well and had them on the ropes, then they came to the fore. Just as we were getting ourselves back into it we conceded from a goal kick. We let them play through us too easily, getting there a second late. A goal like that can happen against a team like Atalanta, though.

“Then we had a great chance with Festy [Ebosele], which should have been a goal, and [Sandi] Lovric's chance, where he could have done better with his quality.

“After that, we should have made sure we went in at the break 1-0. We can't afford to switch off and concede a goal like we did. We all should have done better. Today wasn't one of our best performances.

“I'm angry about the second goal because we could have caused problems for them in the second half. Credit to Atalanta but it would have been a different match. They were able to defend and play on the counter after the restart and there was less space for us to play in, which is when we excel.

“We have another big game next Saturday and we have to keep our heads down and get on with it. We'll lick our wounds and go again to try and get this club and this city were they deserve to be.”
