Udinese are getting stuck into their first pre-season friendlies of the summer and Etienne Camara has already caught the eye of the watching fans. The young midfielder has quality in bucketloads and was interviewed by the club’s TV channel. Here’s some of what he had to say:

“I feel that Udinese is the best place for me. I was really happy when I heard about the club’s interest. I spoke to the directors and told them I was keen to join. I’ve got a huge opportunity on my hands.

“I’m ready for Serie A, even though I know it’s going to be a challenge. I’ve not got my sights set on a particular game, I just want to help the team in whatever matches I get picked for.

“I’ve been really impressed by the club’s facilities – it’s got everything you need as a player. The stadium is just amazing as well.

“I started out at a local Paris team, Torcy. I then moved on to Angers and then was signed by Huddersfield when I was 17. My time in England was really important for my career. I was able to follow my dream. I felt that in leaving my homeland I would be able to handle anything. I had a great time there.

“I played a lot of games for Huddersfield last season, which caught Udinese’s eye. I actually faced Hassane Kamara there. The Championship is a really tough league, the games come thick and fast. You need to be physical, strong and know what to do with the ball as soon as you get it.

“I was really proud to play for France at the U20 World Cup. Unfortunately we didn’t go far in the tournament, but it was a great experience.

“I thrive in the playmaker role. I enjoy having the whole pitch ahead of me.

“I think Andrea Sottil is a top coach, he knows what he wants from every player and that’s really positive. We’re all on the same page and we know what we need to do.

“The atmosphere is fantastic here, I’ve spoken to every player, everyone is lovely. I’ve spent the most time with Axel Guessand, Hassane Kamara, Florian Thauvin and Enzo Ebosse.

“Away from football I enjoy relaxing, doing nothing, sleeping and watching series. I love pasta, so I’m in the right country!”
