Balzaretti: "Poor refereeing"

The sporting director spoke after the Roma defeat

Sporting director Federico Balzaretti was interviewed after his side fell to a 3-1 defeat against Jose Mourinho’s Roma side. Here’s some of what Balzaretti had to say:

“I’m unhappy with the refereeing. Three of our players were booked in the first half. I reckon the yellow shown to Isaac Success should’ve been given to Gianluca Mancini for the foul leading up to it. Overall, the refereeing was poor.

“I’m really happy with how the players are developing and what Gabriele Cioffi is doing. He’s had a big impact on recent games. Joao Ferreira is doing really well and Martin Payero is a proper Udinese player – he’s powerful, penetrating and dynamic. We’re also happy with how Festy Ebosele and Jordan Zemura are kicking on as footballers.”

“I’m not happy with our first half performance. We need to use how we played after the break as a foundation for our important game against Verona. We’ll prepare for this match with great energy and focus.

“Success has been doing well for the team and we’re happy that Florian Thauvin got on the scoresheet. We’ll sit down at the end of December and work out our strategy for the transfer window. I think our forward line is good - the players just need a bit of confidence. Both Lorenzo Lucca and Simone Pafundi have shown what they’re capable of.”
