Udinese Calcio has received further recognition in its mission to achieve sustainability.
The ECA, the European Club Association, selected the club as one of only three finalists in the prestigious Social Impact Awards for the 2024 Udinese Summer Camp project - a sensational result, given the number of candidates judged by the ECA and the extremely high level of entries.
This year, the traditional summer scheme was enhanced with a project designed to promote respect for people and the environment at every level. Udinese wanted to send out a powerful social and educational message by actively seeking to educate children as they play football and enjoy themselves.
With the goal of inspiring new generations to develop a social and environmental conscience, the club set out to become a leading example by preparing a low-carbon diet plan with specialised nutritionists and organising a range of meetings, curated by experts, on respect for the environment and inclusion.
Udinese Calcio had the honour of being nominated as a finalist alongside the Scottish club Celtic and the Swedish club AIK, who won the award in a ceremony at the ECA Assembly, currently taking place in Athens. The Social Impact Award was conceived by the ECA to award the club with the most positive and lasting influence in their community through a tangible commitment to sustainability across the board.
This nomination is confirmation of Udinese’s huge commitment to sustainability and has been recognised at the highest global level. It has already been demonstrated by the club’s involvement in the select ECA working group for sustainability and by the Brand Finance Football Sustainability Index, which has named Udinese as the most sustainable club in Italy and fourth most sustainable in the world.
“It is a huge achievement to be among the finalists for this prestigious award,” said Magda Pozzo. “It means our commitment to sustainability is moving in the right direction and it motivates us to meet increasingly challenging targets to send out positive social and educational messages to the younger generations, who are the key to getting the most out of football’s enormous emotional and media impact. This is the only way to involve and educate supporters and young people. Congratulations to AIK, who fully deserved the award. By measuring ourselves against other European clubs through the ECA, we can share best practices and work with increasing determination on new projects and inspire all those who see us as a reference point on the international stage.”
